The summer days are coming. You can feel it, the sun is starting to shine and it seems as if people are also happier. Or at least I notice that around myself. After a year of lock-downs and restrictions, summer should be a period of joy. Recently I was watching a documentary about food and drink and came across this cocktail. I’ve had this cocktail many times. The simplicity and taste ensure that everyone actually likes this! Today a new cocktail recipe. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to make Mojito.
What is the definition of Mojito
The meaning of Mojito is:
”a highball cocktail from Cuba. This cocktail consist of white rum, lime juice, soda water, mint and sugar. This cocktail is well known as a popular summer drink”.
Mojito
The moment you ask someone: name 3 cocktails, then I think there is a good chance that one of the answers is this cocktail. That is not surprising, given that it is the most famous rum-based highball cocktail. Due to this popularity, many different versions of this cocktail have emerged. Examples are:
- Nojito (no alcohol)
- Cojito (coconut flavor)
- Mojito Blanco (no rum, but tequila)
History Mojito
The history of this cocktail can be traced back to Havana, the capital of Cuba. The exact origin of the drink, like every cocktail, has different stories. In previous cocktail recipes I have already described that the drinks are often used to prevent disease. That is also the story with Mojito. In Cuba they used ”burning water” for this. That was rum in combination with sugar cane. This was then mixed with lime and mint. The name of the cocktail also has several stories. The first story is that the name is derived from the word mojo, a cuban seasoning. Another story is that it’s a derivative of the word mojadito. It’s Spanish for the phrase a little wet. No matter the story and origin of the cocktail, I’m happy that they made it!
Mojito Recipe
This cocktail recipe is so easy. You need the following ingredients: white rum, lime, mint, soda water and granulated sugar.
When you are going to make the cocktail, you will need a muddler. For the rest you do not need a shaker. An important part is the sturdy glass so that you can use the muddler without breaking the glass. The first step is to grab your glass.
Measure 12 grams of granulated sugar or crane sugar, this is one tablespoon. Add the sugar to the glass together with 3-5 lime parts. It’s now the time to start muddling. Mix everything good together. After muddling add a handful of mint leaves. Before you add these to the glass make sure that you smash them with your hand. By smashing them the amazing flavor will be released.
Measure 45 ml of white rum and add this to the glass. Add the half of the glass with crushed ice and mix everything together with a spoon. After mixing together you add the soda water and more crushed ice. Mix everything again together. For the topping you can add a mint leave on top and a lime on the side of the glass! Enjoy your cocktail!
