Today there is a great snack on the menu. I am so excited about this because it is so delicious. The great thing about this recipe is that everyone knows this, but maybe you’ve never made it yourself. If you notice how easy it is, you will make this more often. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to make Cinnamon Rolls.

What is the definition of Cinnamon Rolls

The meaning of Cinnamon Rolls is:

”A rolled dough with a filling of cinnamon and sugar. The dough is baked in the oven and served with a glaze over the roll”.

Cinnamon Rolls

I remember the first time I ate this as if it were yesterday. It wasn’t at my local bakery, maybe he has this one, but it was in Canada. In the city of Toronto near a large supermarket was a bakery that made this great snack. You couldn’t really avoid it either because the smell was everywhere. It was a very big role with a fantastic glazing over it.

In America it is eaten for breakfast or dessert. In the other countries, especially the European countries, it is a snack with a cup of tea or coffee.

The cinnamon roll has different names in other countries. In the Netherlands for example it can have the name: kanelbulle or cinnamon roll. Other names are cinnamon bun, cinnamon swirl, cinnamon Danish, cinnamon snail, sweet roll, kanelsnegl, kanelbolle, skillingsboller, kanelsnurr, korvapuusti, kaneelirull, Zimtschneck, Butterkaka,  bostonkakku or chelsea bunn.

Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

This snack is easy to make. You need the follow ingredients: for the dough you need flour, dry yeast, salt, milk, egg, butter and sugar. For the filling brown sugar and cinnamon powder. And for the glazing you need powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract.

This recipe can you divide into three parts: the dough, the filling and the glazing. Therefor, the first thing is making the dough. Add dry yeast and some water in a small bowl. Mix everything together and put it aside for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes grab a mixing bowl and add the flour, salt, milk, egg, sugar and yeast mixture together. You can use your hands or a kitchen machine with a dough hook. A kitchen machine is easier, but if you don’t have a kitchen machine or mixer with a dough hook your hands will work fine.

Place the dough on a surface with some flour. Knead the butter through the dough. When the butter is mixed together place the dough in a bowl with a plastic wrap on top. Let it rise for 1 hour to 1.5 hours on room temperature. In the mean time you can make the filling. Add the brown sugar with the cinnamon in a small bowl. Mix the ingredients together. Optional is adding butter to the mixture.

Golden Brown Cinnamon Rolls 

Use a baking tray that you have at home. You can use a 30 cm by 30 cm or 25 by 25 cm. Grease it with butter. Take the dough and spread some flour on your working surface. Roll out the dough 50 by 35 cm (20 by 14 inch). Spread the filling on the dough. Roll up the dough and slice 12 rolls. Place the rolls in your baking tray with a plastic wrap on top. Let them rise for 45 minutes on room temperature.

Preheat your oven to 190 degrees celcius. When the oven reaches the right temperature add the rolls in the oven for 30 minutes or when they are golden brown. After 30 minutes let the rolls cool for 10-12 minutes. In the mean time you can make the glaze. Add the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract in a bowl. Mix everything together. Add the glaze on top of the Cinnamon Rolls. Enjoy this amazing snack!
