Everyone has heard of this dessert. It is so popular that it’s often on the menu at restaurants. Besides being popular, it is also quite easy to make. The dish originally comes from northern Italy. It actually means cooked cream.

The dish was first mentioned in a cookbook around the year 1960. There is a story that the recipe was invented by a Hungarian woman around 1900. Yet it was also mentioned in 1879, only under a different name. The dish was then called Inglese milk. It was not until around 1990 that the dish became very popular, especially in America.
