Today there is no dessert on the program such as marzipan or kaiserschmarrn. Before I say what it is, I was so happy to make this myself. I have come across this many times. Both in restaurants and on the internet. You will then see the most amazing photos. I’ve always wondered how does this actually taste. And the taste is really good, typically Italian! I’ve already revealed the first part. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to make Bruschetta.

What is the definition of Bruschetta

The meaning of Bruschetta is:

”An appetizer in which grilled bread is rubbed with garlic, olive oil and cheese. The topping consists of tomato, pepper, salt, vegetables, olive oil and balsamic vinegar”.

Bruschetta has different names. It is also called Bruscetta and fettunta. When you come to a restaurant you usually begin with small starters. These are small tasty dishes that you can usually share with each other. One of these starter dishes can be Bruschetta.

The dish is originally from central Italy. This starter is reported to have originated around the 15th century. Yet the dish is much older. There are indications that this was also eaten in Ancient Rome, in the time of the Romans. The dish looked a bit different here. At the time, it was the olive farmers who went to the local market. They let the people taste the freshly squeezed olive oil on a sandwich. The name Bruschetta comes from the Roman word Bruscare. This means toasting or roasting over coals. Toasting bread with olive oil is not only very tasty, there is also a lot of history attached to this dish. That is what makes this appetizer so special.

How to make Bruschetta

Making Bruscetta is so easy. At first I did not expect that. Usually things seem simple and afterwards it either takes a lot of work or you need a lot of ingredients. You often don’t have these ingredients at home, so you have to go to the store especially for this. In this case there is a chance that you already have most of the ingredients for this appetizer at home.

In my opinion, this dish consists of two parts:

  • Topping
  • Toast

It’s time for the first part of this dish the topping. The topping for Bruschetta consist of tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, sliced basil, salt and balsamic vinegar. First you cut the tomatoes into square cubes. After that, make sure you lose the moisture released by cutting the tomatoes. The next step is to cut the fresh basil. The easiest way is to roll up the basil and then cut thin slices. Just like the tomatoes, you put the basil in a bowl. Then mince the garlic gloves and add them to the bowl as well. After doing this, add the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper to the bowl. Mix everything together and let it stand for at least 30 minutes.

Toast

The second part is the toast. I recommend buying a fresh baguette from the bakery or the supermarket. In short, the baguette that you like to eat. Cut this baguette diagonally so that you get nice slices. Next you need extra virgin olive oil and two cloves of garlic. Mince the garlic and add this with the olive oil to a small bowl.

The next step is to smear the pieces of baguette with the olive oil and garlic on both sides. It is best to take a baking tray with baking paper. Then you put the pieces of baguette down and start greasing from the top. Once you have done the top, turn all the baguettes over and cover the other side as well. This is actually it! In this process you can preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. When the oven is preheated, all you have to do is put grated Parmesan cheese on each sandwich and it can go straight into the oven. You take them out of the oven when the bread is golden brown. This will take about 5 minutes depending on your oven.

The last step is to take a baguette and cover it with a layer of tomato mix. You can choose to add some balsamic and olive oil to the Bruschetta. This is what you like best!

  2. Add this to a bowl with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper.
  3. Mix everything together and let it stand for 30 minutes.
  4. Cut the baguette
  5. Mix olive oil with two garlic cloves
  6. Take a baking tray with baking paper and place the baguette on it
  7. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees
  8. Coat the baguette with the olive oil mixture on both sides
  9. Add grated parmesan cheese on top
  10. Put the baguette in the oven for 5 minutes until golden brown
  11. Then add the mix to the baguette and enjoy your appetizer!
