Today there is a new recipe on the program. I made it a while back, but only had the time today to write it out really well. The December crowds have just passed and always in January I take it a bit easier. Still, I think I’ll be making this recipe again soon. It was so delicious and quick to make! In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to make Appelflappen.
What is the definition of Appelflappen
The meaning of Appelflap is:
”A snack that consist of puff pastry with a filling of apples, cinnamon, raisins, currants, apricot jam, sugar and cornstarch. The snack has a triangular shape”.
Appelflappen
This is a traditional Dutch Snack, also called Appelflap or Apple cinnamon turnovers or Apple turnovers. The apple turnovers are made with puff pastry and in a triangular shape. Inside the apple turnovers are a mixture of apple cubes with cinnamon, currants, raisins, sugar, corn starch and apricot jam.
Before or after baking you can sprinkle the with sugar. I prefer to do this before baking because you get the nice caramelized color on top of the appelflap. If you like you can add a little bit of rum to the mixture. This will give the snack a little bit more flavor!
I really recommend you try this appelflappen or also called apple turnovers. Do you like this recipe leave a comment below or leave a comment on my YouTube Channel! I will appreciate that too!
Appelflappen Recipe
This snack is easy to make. You need the follow ingredients: apples, raisins, currants, granulated sugar, cinnamon, apricot jam, cornstarch, all purpose flour and puff pastry.
The first step is to peel the 2 apples and cut them into small pieces. For this recipe I used golden rennet, but you can use other apples if you like them more! Put the apples in a pan together with 50 grams of raisins, 50 grams of currants, 42 grams of granulated sugar, 8 grams of cinnamon, 25 grams of apricot jam and 15 grams of corn starch.
Place the pan over the gas over medium heat for 10 minutes. Keep stirring the mixture together for 10 minutes. For the spoon I used a wooden spoon. After the 10 minutes take the pan of the stove. Put some all-purpose flour on your counter and place 8 slides of puff pastry on it. Spoon the mixture into the center of the puff pastry.
Fold the points together to form a triangle. Press the edges closed with your fingertips. Brush one side with water. Then dip the wet part on a plate with the remaining granulated sugar.
Preheat the oven to 220℃ Celsius. Bake for 20 minutes on middle or lower rack (220℃). Let it cool a little bit. I recommend 15 minutes. After 15 minutes you can enjoy this warm snack! It’s so good!
