In the Netherlands, for example, a lot of bread is eaten for breakfast. In America and England you have a lot of cereals or pancakes. Today a new option for breakfast. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to make Hash Browns.

What is the definition of Hash Browns

The meaning of Hash Browns is:

Everyone knows the Hash Browns. This is a popular American breakfast. It consists of finely chopped potatoes that are then fried until they are golden brown. The dish has two other names:

  • Hashed Browns
  • Hashed Browns Potatoes

The history of the Hash Brown goes back to the year 1887. Here is the first mention of the dish written by the American Maria Parloa. Maria Parloa was an American food author and described the dish in the book Kitchen Companion. The potatoes were found as an omelet.

The name Hash Brown was coined years later. It was known in the Cold War era as a ready-to-eat meal. It was also mass-produced. Large fast food chains also used the popularity to sell the hash browns. For example, McDonald’s and Burger King began selling in the 1980s. The dish was presented as a quick breakfast. Nowadays you can actually eat the dish at any time.

Hash Browns Recipe

This smoothie recipe is so easy. You need the follow ingredients: 3 potatoes, salt and pepper.

The first thing you need to do is peel the potatoes. When the three potatoes are peeled you start grating the potatoes. After the three potatoes are grated you will notice that there is a lot of moisture from the potatoes. This moisture needs to be removed. I recommend to use kitchen paper, but you can also use a towel.

Remove all the moisture

The easiest way is to put the grated potatoes on the kitchen paper and press everything together. You need to repeat this process until the paper is completely dry. When the kitchen paper is dry you add the potatoes to a bowl. Add the salt and pepper for seasoning.

Grab a frying pan with oil on medium/high heat. Add the grated potatoes to the frying pan. You can choose to make small hash browns or a big one. I have chosen for a big one, but if I make it next time I will choose for multiple hash browns. When you have added the grated potatoes you need to put the heat on low. Bake 15 minutes per each side. Shape the hash browns with a spatula and afterwards don’t touch the hash browns, only for flipping them.

After 30 minutes baking, the hash browns are golden brown on both sides! Enjoy this great breakfast! Below I have written the steps again in short steps.
