It often seems like a lot of work, but once you have the ingredients and a good recipe, everything can actually be made. Or at least that’s how I experience it. It gives me energy to make the most delicious dishes and share this with friends and family. You can choose to use sugar glazing on cookies. For cakes and cupcakes, this often involves frosting. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to make Cream Cheese Frosting.

What is the definition of Cream Cheese Frosting

The meaning of Cream Cheese Frosting is:

”Frosting is a substance you can use to decorate pastries, including cupcakes. The substance is thicker than, for example, Glaze and retains its shape. Cream Cheese Frosting consists of: cream cheese, Powdered sugar, unsalted butter, salt and vanilla extract”.

History

Looking for the first information about the history of frosting is hard. It is often interesting to know who start with something new and how it has been developed over the years. Or I think its interesting. In the history of baking, icing (not frosting) was first discovered in the 16th century. Icing was added to a cake an then the icing was hardened in the oven. The first frosting recipe is invented around 1655 by Rebecca Price. She was the first who written a recipe down of covering a cake with frosting. To make the frosting hard they used the refrigerator.

With the popularity of cupcakes, the frosting has also become more and more popular. So many different types of frosting are possible. New combinations can be made by everyone! Lets find out some possibilities!

Ingredients for Cream Cheese Frosting

To make this fantastic frosting you need five ingredients. The ingredients are: Cream Cheese, Powdered Sugar, Unsalted Butter, Salt and Vanilla Extract. Below we will explain the ingredients or watch our video!

Cream Cheese: you can use what you want
Powdered Sugar: Just regular Powdered Sugar
Unsalted Butter: Important to use butter that is unsalted. That gives the best flavor!
Vanilla Extract: I used vanilla extract, i never tried a vanilla pod!
Salt: Just normal salt

Equipment

  • Kitchen Machine
  • Digital Food Scale

Ingredients
  

  • 225 grams Cream Cheese
  • 113 grams Unsalted Butter
  • 400 grams Powdered Sugar
  • 6 ml Vanilla Extract
  • 1 pinch Salt

Instructions
 

  • Start with measuring 113 grams of unsalted butter and 225 grams of Cream Cheese.
  • Add the Cream Cheese and unsalted butter in the Kitchen Machine and start mixing at medium speed.
  • Measure 400 grams of Powdered Sugar.
  • When the butter and Cream Cheese are nicely mixed you add the Powdered Sugar in 5 parts.
  • Make sure to include the remnants of the bottom and sides and add a pinch of salt.
  • Measure 6 ml of Vanilla Extract and add it to the mix. Once you've mixed everything, you'll be able to use cream cheese frosting.
