  • 100 grams Granulated Sugar
  • 100 grams White Castor Sugar
  • 300 grams Unsalted Butter
  • 300 grams All purpose flour
  • 1 Egg
  • Salt


  • Unpack the 300 grams of unsalted butter and cut them in small cubes. Add the butter cubes to a mixing bowl.
  • Add 100 grams of granulated sugar and 100 grams of white castor sugar to the mixing bowl. Knead everything together.
  • Add 300 grams of flour to the bowl and knead the dough into a ball.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic foil and let the dough rest for 1 hour in the fridge.
  • After 1 hour spread the dough evenly in the baking tin.
  • Create the authentic pattern with a fork.
  • Brush the dough with the egg wash and let the dough rest for 30 minutes in the fridge.
  • After 30 minutes create the authentic pattern again.
  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees celcius.
  • Bake the Boterkoek for 20 minutes on 200 degrees celcius golden brown.
  • After the 20 minutes let the cake cool until room temperature or cool completely. Enjoy this Dutch Boterkoek!
