The meaning of Chocolate Panna Cotta is:

”A North Italian dessert that means cooked cream which includes dark chocolate, vanilla bean, heavy cream, gelatin and sugar”.

Chocolate Panna Cotta

Panna Cotta is a real dessert that originates from Northern Italy. The name actually means cooked cream. As the name suggests, the dessert consists of cream, but also sugar and gelatin. Depending on the recipe, milk can also be used and other flavors added. This includes vanilla, coffee or rum.

The panna cotta can hold its shape by gelatin. This is essential in this dessert. You can choose to use leaves or powder if available. My preference is always for gelatin leaves. With the dish you can serve berries, caramel, raspberry sauce or chocolate sauce. For this dish involving Chocolate Panna Cotta, whipped cream can be an addition.

Chocolate Panna Cotta Recipe

This dessert recipe is so easy. You need the follow ingredients: dark chocolate, vanilla pod, sugar, heavy cream and gelatin.

The first step is to add the gelatin leaves (or powder) in cold water. Set it aside. Grab your saucepan and add the whipped cream and sugar. Grab your knife and cut the vanilla pod in half. Scrape out the vanilla pod and add this to the saucepan. Also add the outside for extra vanilla flavor. Turn the gas to medium heat and bring the saucepan to a boil.

When the mixture boils turn off the gas. Remove the vanilla pod. Take the gelatin leaves and squeeze out the water. Add them to the saucepan. Cut the dark chocolate into small pieces and add this also to the saucepan. Mix the gelatin and the dark chocolate together with the mixture. Add the mixture to your ramekins. You can fill between 4 and 6 ramekins. Let the ramekins cool in the fridge for 4 hours. After 4 hours remove the ramekins from the fridge. Use a knife to remove the chocolate panna cotta from the ramekins. Before using the knife you can add the ramekins to a bowl with hot water for a couple of seconds. Make sure that the hot water does not reach the panna cotta. Then you can use a knife to loosen the top. Enjoy!
